Malacca trip (7 & 8 August 2010)

Last Saturday and Sunday, I went with my colleagues (including their other halfs) for a short Malacca trip getaway. There were a total of 6 people and my colleague’s husband was our driver. We sat in his family car with my “neighbour @ wk” armed with paper, pen, map, the card(cant rmbr the name) and a gps. Haha, my senior buddy was the coordinator and I am *drop down head* just the participant (or more accurately, the one that did not contribute anything. Opps.).

Call me a mountain tortoise if u wish. Hehe, it was my first time going into Malaysia in a car (coach not counted) so it was quite an experience for me. I did not know previously that if you go by car, u need not get off the car and queue when passing thru customs. The different car plates, the car speed and how chaotic it was in the small roads.

.We stayed at Hotel Equatorial Melaka (Premier room) for the night - MYR 343 per room per night. Divide by 2 and less the dining credits which I did not utilize, I paid about MYR 150. The room was v nice and I like the coach/sofa/bed (?) by the balcony. Can see the view and quite comfy =P The hotel was right next to the gigantic shopping centre and walking distance to the Jonker street so is pretty accessible and convenient.

Due to the long weekend, there was a jam at the causeway. It took us around 4 hrs to reach Melaka via the Tuas 2nd link. By the time we reach Melaka, we were all v hungry people.

Lunch was at (the already extinct in Singapore) A&W. The rest were craving for it and we were wondering why A&W choose to close down its SG operations. I ordered the grilled chicken burger set, with curly fries and root beer float. Portion of the burger was small though. My colleagues ordered their wings set and their waffles. It was a messy affair for me although. Hehe, cause my float overflow and caused a little flood.

Thereafter, we walked to Jonker Street and went directly to get their “tu2chan3”. My colleagues have received “orders” to help get the pineapples tarts and their “gula melaka” sugar. The aunties are super good sales person. Most of us ended up with a burst-ed budget on food. =) Hehe, we also stopped by to eat dessert. I had their baba ice kacang while my colleagues ate their famous baba chendol. We had to stand and eat as there were not enough space in the shop. Not sure if it was caused by the coconut milk or sth, my colleague’s husband ls later back at hotel and my roomie was also not feeling well and vomited – but she is already not feeling v well the previous few days at wk)

We went back to hotel for a long nap and rest before dinner. Dinner was settled at this 3 storey high Korean restaurant. Right opposite the shopping mall. The restaurant seems quite authentic and was owned by this Korean boss. The waiter seems to think that we order too little even though we realize that the portion was quite big later on. We learn how to eat Korean bbq the right way =) Dip the meat in sauce, put it in the lettuce and add in the garlic and some veggie. Yums! And the meal was quite cheap, each person only ard SGD15.

After the meal, we went ard the mall and spend a long time in the dvd store (shh). We rot a littleback at hotel before watching the 3D movie, the last airbender. Haha, I had a whole popcorn set by myself and that is what that contributed to my sore throat the next morning). The movie was okie but it is like neither here or there for me cause there are 3 more parts to it for the story to nicely end.

Sunday was a short one. We checked out before heading out for brunch. Initially wanted to try this peranakan place which my roomie say was nice but it was fully booked. We went for their famous chicken rice instead. Their chicken rice balls look like fishballs… Hehe, cause our impression was that the chicken rice ball would be big but it was just fishball size =P We shopped ard, went to a temple and also tried the or-ni. The shop name is called e-Ha and was also opened by the peranakan restaurant boss. My colleagues also had their nice durian dessert. We bot back mini“or-ni’s which can be heated up and be eaten back home.

Journey home was only ard 2 hrs. A smooth sail thru the customs with no jams.

Though the trip was short and we din do much, i felt that it was quite a fruitful one. My colleague remarked that the driver was kept happy and that was v impt, hehe =P And they were saying, next up, Maur for the otah otah!
